Dear Students,
As the winds of a new era gather strength and China moves forward with renewed vitality, we find ourselves stepping into a remarkable period in history. Building a community with a shared future for humankind has become a mission of profound significance.
A new era brings new responsibilities and new commitments. It calls upon the Chinese people to contribute greater wisdom and solutions to global governance. The world increasingly looks to China for constructive engagement, and China is moving closer to the center of the global stage. More and more Chinese professionals are entering international organizations, engaging with the global community, voicing China’s perspectives, and working together to advance the well-being of humanity.
Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) has been a pioneer in cultivating talent for international organizations in China. Since 2010, the university has undertaken a national education reform pilot program titled “Exploring an Interdisciplinary Talent Development Model for International Organizations.” Building upon the successful training of six cohorts of master’s students, BFSU officially established the School of International Organizations (SIO) on April 9, 2017—the first dedicated school of international organizations established at a Chinese university.
The SIO is committed to cultivating a new generation of internationally oriented professionals urgently needed by international organizations. We expect them to combine a strong sense of national commitment with a global perspective, master two or more working languages of the UN, and develop solid expertise in fields such as international politics, international business, or international law. Our distinguished faculty includes both Chinese and international scholars from diverse disciplines such as foreign languages, political science, economics, management, and law. In addition, experienced practitioners from diplomacy, international trade, international communication, Chinese embassies abroad, and the UN system share their valuable insights and professional experiences. An extensive network of global partners and alumni further provides pathways for studying at leading universities worldwide and pursuing internships and careers in international organizations.
The development of BFSU’s international organization talent training program has received continuous guidance and strong support from central government institutions. We have also benefited from generous contributions from many sectors of society, especially from the business community. On behalf of all faculty and students of the SIO, I would like to express our sincere gratitude.
From Weigongcun village to the global village, from West 3rd Ring North Road to the Belt and Road, accompanied by the spirit embodied in our university anthem—“Wherever the people need us, we shall go”—the SIO will move forward with you toward a broader world and a bright future.
